Color Memory Game

See a colour for four seconds, then rebuild it from memory, five times a day.

Every day: Five colours a day, generated from the UTC date and the same for every player in the same order; each flashes for four seconds and you rebuild it from memory, with one posted run per day on a daily leaderboard. New puzzle: Midnight UTC, as the daily page states.

The daily mode of Color Memory Game shows everyone the same five colours each day. Each one flashes for four seconds and disappears, and you recreate it with hue, saturation and brightness sliders. Your five round scores add up to one daily total that you can compare on a leaderboard.

About Color Memory Game

Color Memory Game is a browser site with more than twenty colour games, from slider matching and hex code guessing to a Stroop test and multiplayer rooms. Its Daily mode is the one shared puzzle: five target colours chosen from the calendar date in UTC, so every player sees the same shades in the same order on the same day.

A round is short. A colour fills the screen for four seconds, then vanishes, and you are left with three sliders for hue, saturation and brightness. You set them to match what you remember and submit. There are no decoys or multiple choice options, and you get one try at each of the five colours.

Each guess is compared with the target using CIEDE2000, a measure of colour difference that follows how the eye judges it, so a close match scores near the round maximum and the points fall away as the gap grows. The five round scores are added into your daily total, which goes on the daily leaderboard. Playing on consecutive UTC days builds a streak, and a free account can bank a streak freeze for a missed day.

The unlimited Solo mode uses the same rules with a random set each time, which makes it the place to practise before your one daily run. The daily suits anyone who liked Close Hue or Colorfle and wants a test of visual memory rather than of colour names or mixing.

How to play Color Memory Game

  1. Open the daily page; the date of today's set is shown at the top.
  2. Watch the first colour for the four seconds it is on screen.
  3. Use the hue, saturation and brightness sliders to rebuild it from memory, then submit.
  4. Repeat for all five colours; each guess is scored by how close it is.
  5. Post your total and see where it sits among the day's players.

Tips

  • Play a round or two of Solo first so your eye is warmed up before the run that counts.
  • During the four seconds, name the colour to yourself in rough words, such as dark muted teal.
  • Set the hue first; getting the colour family right matters more than fine brightness.
  • The day turns over at midnight UTC, not local midnight, so plan your streak around that.

Questions

When does the daily colour game reset?

At midnight UTC. A new set of five colours is ready after that.

Yes. The five colours are generated from the UTC date, so every player gets the same shades in the same order.

How many tries do I get?

One run a day, with one guess at each of the five colours.

How is the score worked out?

Each guess is compared with its target by perceptual colour distance, and the five round scores are added up.

Do I need an account?
