COLOR CODE in DAILY mode: a magenta target colour above red, green and blue sliders set to 128 and a mix button

COLOR CODE is a colour deduction puzzle: you mix red, green and blue values to recreate a target colour, guided by arrows that tell you to go higher or lower on each channel. In DAILY mode every player gets the same colour once a day; FREE mode gives unlimited random colours.

About COLOR CODE

COLOR CODE presents itself as a hacking-style colour puzzle. The game shows a target colour, and you rebuild it by setting three sliders for red, green and blue, each from 0 to 255, then pressing the mix button to submit. After each attempt it tells you, channel by channel, whether to go higher or lower, marks a channel green when it is within five of the target, and gives a crown for an exact match. You have five attempts.

The page points out that luck is not the way to win: halving the range on each channel, a binary search, closes in quickly. In DAILY mode every player in the world gets the same colour, generated from the date, once a day. FREE mode serves unlimited random colours and adds a HEX input for designers who think in codes.

At the end the game makes an image of your attempts to share. It plays in the browser on itch.io with mouse or touch, its interface is in Japanese with an English description on the page, and the maker notes that AI assisted with the code.

How to play COLOR CODE

  1. Open COLOR CODE on itch.io and press GAME START with DAILY selected.
  2. Look at the target colour at the top.
  3. Set the red, green and blue sliders to your guess and press the mix button.
  4. Read the feedback for each channel: higher, lower, close (within five) or exact.
  5. Adjust and try again; match the colour within five attempts.

Tips

  • Start every channel at the middle, 128, and halve the gap after each hint.
  • Fix the channel that looks furthest off first; vivid colours usually have one channel near 0 or 255.
  • Once a channel turns green it is within five, so spend the remaining attempts on the others.
