About Zwelda

Zwelda plays like Wordle. You type a five-letter word and hit Enter, and the tiles turn to show whether each letter is in the right spot, in the word but elsewhere, or not in the word at all. The game's own examples use ZELDA, GANON and MALON.

The answers all come from The Legend of Zelda series, so a day's word might be a character, a race, a place in Hyrule or an item. To make that fair, guesses can be any valid five-letter word from the English dictionary or from the Zelda universe, so Zelda counts as a word. A new Zwelda is available each day, the same for everyone, with stats and settings in the corner.

The same site runs a harder Hero Mode, whose answers cover every NPC, location and shrine, and LINK, a newer four-letter game. Zwelda is a free fan-made game.

How to play Zwelda

1. Open zwelda.com and type a five-letter word, from English or from the Zelda games.
2. Press Enter to submit it.
3. Read the tiles: right letter in the right spot, right letter in the wrong spot, or not in the word.
4. Use the colours to choose your next guess, up to six tries.
5. Come back tomorrow for a new Zelda word.

Tips

• Think of the series' names: characters, races, regions and items are all fair answers.
• Open with an ordinary English word to find common letters, then switch to Zelda names.
• Remember Zelda names often use unusual letter patterns, such as double letters or a final K or N.
• Try Hero Mode once Zwelda feels easy.
