Adoptle
Guess the name of a real adoptable pet in six tries.
Every day: One adoptable pet a day, the same for everyone: guess its name in six tries with Wordle-style colour clues, then see the pet's breed, location and adoption listing. New puzzle: Midnight US Eastern Time.

Adoptle is a daily Wordle-style game hosted by Try Hard Guides where the answer is the name of a real pet waiting for a home. You get six guesses, with the length of the name shown and coloured tiles after each try. Once the round ends, the game shows the pet's photo, breed, age, city and a link to its Petfinder listing.
About Adoptle
Adoptle works like Wordle, but each day's answer is the name of a real animal listed for adoption. Everyone gets the same pet on the same day, and the puzzles are numbered (number 1648 was the puzzle for 2 October 2026). The old adoptle.com address now leads to the game's page on Try Hard Guides.
You have six attempts. The board is as long as the pet's name, and every guess must be a valid word, with first names accepted; a guess may also be shorter than the answer. After each guess, a teal tile marks a letter in the right spot, a gold tile a letter that is in the name but elsewhere, and a grey tile a letter that is not in the name.
When the round is over, the game reveals the pet behind the name: a photo, its species and breed, age, sex and size, the city and state where it is waiting, and a link to its listing on Petfinder. A stats panel tracks your results, and there is a dark mode.
Names are harder to guess than dictionary words, since letter patterns are less predictable, which makes Adoptle a slightly different challenge from the usual five-letter puzzle. It suits animal lovers and anyone who wants a short daily word game with a small good cause attached. The page carries ads.
How to play Adoptle
- Open Adoptle on Try Hard Guides and close the How to Play box with Play.
- Note how many tiles the board has: that is the length of today's pet's name.
- Type a valid word or name and press Enter; shorter guesses are allowed.
- Read the tiles: teal is the right letter in the right spot, gold is in the name elsewhere, grey is not in the name.
- Find the name within six attempts, then meet the pet and follow the link to its Petfinder listing.
Tips
- Start with a common pet or first name that uses several vowels.
- Remember that pet names often end in Y, IE, A or O.
- A shorter guess can test a few letters without filling the whole row.
- Letters can repeat in names, so do not rule out a double letter.
Questions
Is the Adoptle pet real?
Yes. Each answer is the name of an animal listed for adoption, and the game links to its Petfinder page after you play.
How many guesses do I get?
Six.
When does a new Adoptle come out?
At midnight US Eastern Time.
Can I guess a word shorter than the answer?
Yes. Guesses must be valid words or names, but they can be shorter than the pet's name.
