Bookdle is a free daily word game for book lovers, made by the book recommendation account Bookworm. It plays like Wordle, but every answer is tied to books: a literary word, an author's name or a word from a famous title. After three tries you can open a clue.

About Bookdle

Bookdle is a books-themed clone of Wordle created by Bookworm, an account that shares book recommendations on Instagram and X. Its daily words started on 26 February 2023 and come from a fixed list, so every reader gets the same word on the same day.

You have six tries to find a five letter word. After each guess the tiles turn green for a right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the word but elsewhere, and grey for a letter that is not in it. The answers are related to books, authors, characters, poems and literature: an ebook, a journal, or the missing word in a title such as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

The twist is the clue. After three tries a locked clue opens, usually a short definition or a book title with the answer blanked out, which helps when the letters alone do not give it away. There is also a hard mode, a dark mode, a high contrast mode and a stats screen, and you can share your result grid.

How to play Bookdle

  1. Open Bookdle and type a five letter word with the on-screen or physical keyboard.
  2. Press Enter and read the colours: green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
  3. After three tries, open the clue from the magnifying glass for a hint about the book-related answer.
  4. Keep guessing until you find the word or use all six tries, then share your result.

Tips

  • Think about book words first: titles, authors' surnames and terms like novel, prose or genre.
  • Save the clue for when the letters stall; it often points to a specific book title.
  • Common Wordle openers still work, since every answer is a five letter word.
  • Remember answers can be names, so a capitalised word you would not expect in Wordle may fit.
