Guess The Book puzzle 1167 with a Goodreads rating count, an excerpt, six guess slots and the countdown to the next game

Guess The Book is the book edition of the Guess The Game family of daily puzzles. Each day's numbered book starts with a short passage and its number of Goodreads ratings; every wrong guess or skip reveals another clue, and you have six tries to name the title.

About Guess The Book

Guess The Book belongs to the same network as Guess The Game, Guess The Audio, Guess The Movie Name and other daily guessing sites. Its puzzles are numbered from the first one on 24 July 2023, and everyone gets the same book on the same day.

The first clue is a passage from the book, shown alongside the number of Goodreads ratings it has, which hints at how well known it is. You search for a title and submit it; if you are wrong, or press Skip, the next of six clues appears. When you find it, or run out of guesses, the book is revealed with links, and a countdown shows when the next one arrives. You can also go back to earlier puzzles.

The site carries ads; an optional membership removes them and adds stats syncing and exclusive content.

It suits keen readers, book club members and anyone who likes recognising a book from its prose.

How to play Guess The Book

  1. Read the opening excerpt and note the Goodreads rating count.
  2. Search for a book title and submit, or press Skip to see the next clue.
  3. Each wrong guess or skip reveals another clue, up to six.
  4. Name the book within six guesses and share your result.

Tips

  • A high rating count points to a bestseller or classic; a low one to something more niche.
  • Watch for names, places and voice in the excerpt; first-person narration narrows genres.
  • Skipping costs a guess but can be worth it if the first passage gives nothing away.
  • Search by author if you recognise the style but not the title.
