Zelda Heardle

Name the Legend of Zelda track of the day from its first second, in six tries.

Every day: One piece of music from The Legend of Zelda series a day, the same for everyone: the first try plays one second of it and each skip or wrong guess plays more, up to 16 seconds, with six tries to name the track. An Infinite mode gives extra rounds. New puzzle: Midnight in your own time zone (the game counts days on the player's local date).

Zelda Heardle is a Heardle for the music of The Legend of Zelda series. Each day one track plays from its start, beginning with one second and growing after every skip or miss, and you have six tries to pick the right track and game. A wrong guess still tells you whether you at least chose the right game.

About Zelda Heardle

Zelda Heardle takes the song intro game Heardle and points it at one series: The Legend of Zelda. The answer each day is a track from the soundtracks, listed as the track name and the game, such as Twilight Realm from Twilight Princess, and the game's list runs to several hundred entries across the series.

The clip starts at one second. Each skip or wrong guess unlocks more of the track, at 2, 4, 7, 11 and finally 16 seconds, and you have six tries. You pick your answer from a searchable list. When a guess is wrong, the game adds a note saying whether you picked a track from the right game, which helps you narrow things down even if the tune escapes you.

The audio is streamed from SoundCloud. The home page carries a notice from the maker that the music player does not always load, and suggests Infinite mode as a fallback when it fails. Infinite mode serves random tracks without the once-a-day limit, so it is also the place to practise.

The game is a fan project, free and without an account; there are links to a Ko-fi page for support and a feedback form for suggestions. It suits players who know the series well enough to tell a dungeon theme from a village theme in a second or two.

How to play Zelda Heardle

  1. Open the daily game from zeldaheardle.com and press play to hear the first second of today's track.
  2. Type part of a track or game name and pick an answer from the list, or skip to hear more.
  3. After a wrong guess, check the note: it says whether you at least chose the right game.
  4. Each skip or miss unlocks a longer clip, up to 16 seconds; you have six tries in all.

Tips

  • Use the right game note: once it says the game is correct, think only about that soundtrack.
  • Instrument choice dates the track: chiptune and MIDI sounds point to older games, live orchestra to newer ones.
  • Skip early rather than guessing at random; a wrong guess and a skip cost the same.
  • If the player fails to load, try Infinite mode, as the site itself suggests.
