Hero Mode: Zwelda

Hero Mode Zwelda board: the Hero Mode title and the line Every NPC. Every location. Every shrine., above an empty six-row grid and a keyboard

Hero Mode is the tougher daily puzzle on Zwelda, the Zelda Wordle. You guess a five-letter word in six tries with the usual letter colours, but the answer comes from a pool of more than 1,000 Zelda entries, from minor characters and shrines to obscure places, with no context or wiki hints.

About Hero Mode: Zwelda

Zwelda is a Wordle-style game whose answers come from The Legend of Zelda. Its regular mode draws on about 500 words; Hero Mode more than doubles that to over 1,000 entries and includes every minor detail, such as each shrine, location and character, so it is aimed at the most devoted fans.

Each guess must be a valid five-letter word, either from the English dictionary or from the Zelda universe (ZELDA itself counts). After you press Enter, the tiles show which letters are in the right spot, which are in the word elsewhere and which are not in it, as in Wordle. Unlike the regular mode, Hero Mode gives no context or wiki answer to help.

A new Hero Mode word arrives each day, the same for everyone, and stats keep your record. The same site also runs regular Zwelda and LINK, a four-letter Zelda word game.

How to play Hero Mode: Zwelda

  1. Type a five-letter word, from English or from the Zelda universe, and press Enter.
  2. Read the tiles: green is the right letter in the right spot, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in it.
  3. Use what you learn to narrow down the Zelda word.
  4. Find it within six tries; a new Hero Mode word arrives the next day.

Tips

  • Open with an English word rich in vowels before trying Zelda names.
  • Think beyond main characters: shrines, towns and minor NPCs are all fair game.
  • Play regular Zwelda first to warm up on common names.
