About FFXIVrdle

FFXIVrdle takes the Wordle rules and fills the answer list with Final Fantasy XIV vocabulary. The words come from all over the game: jobs and actions like Ninja and Esuna, primals like Shiva, Titan and Ifrit, places, characters and the slang raiders use, such as stack and melee. There are a little over 160 answers in the list.

Each guess must be a five-letter word. After you enter it, every tile turns to show whether that letter is in the right spot, in the word but elsewhere, or not in the word at all, and the on-screen keyboard keeps track. You have six rows.

If you are stuck, a hint button unlocks on your fifth guess. Using it costs one guess and reveals an explanation of the word, which is handy when the answer is a name only a long-time player would know. A stats screen keeps your record, and the game's Discord takes suggestions for new words.

The word is picked from the date, so every player gets the same one on the same day, and it changes at midnight where you are. It suits Final Fantasy XIV players who already play Wordle and want one with words from their own game.

How to play FFXIVrdle

1. Type a five-letter word and press Enter.
2. Read the tile colours: right letter in the right spot, right letter in the wrong spot, or not in the word.
3. Use those clues to choose your next word; you have six tries.
4. From the fifth guess, take a hint if you need it; it costs a guess and explains the word.
5. Solve the word and check your stats; a new one comes at midnight.

• Think in Final Fantasy XIV terms: job names, primals, spells and raid callouts all turn up.
• Ordinary English starting words still help to place common letters before you switch to game terms.
• Save the hint for the end: it costs a guess, so take it only when the letters run out.
