A short bouncing dungeon run each day with a new rule twist.

Every day: The Daily Puzzle: a short seeded run, about ten minutes, with a rule twist that changes every day, such as no gravity, permanent poison or defeating a room in two turns. Beating it earns a Golden Puzzle Piece toward new relics. There is also a Weekly Run, a 45-floor dungeon that is the same for every player, where only your first attempt counts on the leaderboard. New puzzle: Once a day for the Daily Puzzle; the Weekly Run changes each week.

Roundguard: a board of gold coins, potions and monsters in a cave, with the hero's stats and spells on the left and enemy cards on the right

Roundguard is a dungeon crawler from Wonderbelly Games played with pinball physics: you launch your hero into a board of monsters, gold and potions and bounce off them. Its Daily Puzzle is a short seeded run with a new rule twist each day, alongside a Weekly Run dungeon that everyone shares on a leaderboard.

About Roundguard

Roundguard is a roguelike made by Wonderbelly Games and published by The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild. It came out in March 2020 on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and iOS through Apple Arcade, followed by PlayStation 4 and later Android. Instead of moving a hero around a map, you fire them into each room like a ball in Peggle: they bounce off pegs, coins and monsters, damaging enemies and picking up loot, and each turn the monsters hit back. You pick one of the heroes, climb down through the floors of Castle Springbottom and try to beat the final boss with only one life.

The Treasure Hunter update of July 2020 added two shared modes. The Daily Puzzle is a bite-sized challenge each day with a rule twist, such as no gravity, permanent poison or defeating the room in two turns or dying. The developers described these as super short seeded runs whose rules swap out every day, meant for a quick warm-up or a lunch break. Beating the day's puzzle earns a Golden Puzzle Piece.

The Weekly Run is a 45-floor dungeon with its own set of rules. All players face the exact same dungeon, only your first attempt counts on the leaderboard, and you get a Golden Puzzle Piece just for trying it. The pieces unlock relics and bonus properties you can use in normal runs. Later free updates added a druid hero, seasonal events and, in 2022, the Encore 2.0 update with Encore ranks and an Endless Mode.

How to play Roundguard

  1. Choose the Daily Puzzle from the main menu and read the day's rule twist.
  2. Aim your hero and launch them into the room; they bounce off pegs, loot and monsters.
  3. Use your skills and potions between shots, and clear the room before the monsters wear you down.
  4. Finish the short run under the day's rule to earn a Golden Puzzle Piece.
  5. Try the Weekly Run for a longer shared dungeon where your first attempt goes on the leaderboard.

Tips

  • Read the twist before your first shot: a rule like no gravity changes how every bounce plays out.
  • Gold is your score, but health and mana pickups matter more in a short run where one bad room ends it.
  • Spend Golden Puzzle Pieces on relics you can take back into normal runs.
