Against the Storm: a small settlement in a forest clearing with blue-roofed houses, a wooden building under construction and a crop field

Against the Storm is a roguelite city builder from Eremite Games in which you found short-lived settlements in a world of endless rain. Its Daily Expedition hands every player the same map, embark bonuses and three modifiers each day, and resets at 00:00 GMT.

About Against the Storm

Against the Storm is a dark fantasy city builder made by the Polish studio Eremite Games and published by Hooded Horse. It left early access on PC in December 2023 and came to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch in June 2025. As a viceroy of the Scorched Queen, you lead humans, beavers, lizards, foxes and harpies into the wilds to build settlements, gather resources and meet the Queen's orders before her patience runs out or the villagers lose faith. Each settlement is a self-contained game of an hour or two, and the rain cycle, the dangerous forest glades and the needs of each species shape what you build.

The Daily Expedition was added in the Expeditions Update of December 2021. The developers describe it this way: each day a map is picked on a random biome, with a set of embark bonuses and three modifiers, one positive and two negative, and every player has the same Daily Expedition. It resets at 00:00 GMT. You choose the difficulty before you embark, and the rewards scale with it, but they are the same as for any other settlement near a modifier and are given only once a day.

The daily is unlocked in the Smoldering City once the Obsidian Archives reach level 6. Because the modifiers are fixed, it often puts you in a situation you would not choose on the world map, which makes it a good test of a strategy you have been using, and something to compare with other players who built the same map.

How to play Against the Storm

  1. Unlock the Daily Expedition by raising the Obsidian Archives in the Smoldering City to level 6.
  2. Open the Daily Expedition, read the day's biome, embark bonuses and modifiers, and pick a difficulty.
  3. Embark and build your settlement: gather resources, house and feed your villagers and keep their resolve up.
  4. Complete the Queen's orders and earn reputation before her impatience fills up.
  5. Win the settlement to collect the day's rewards, then wait for the reset at 00:00 GMT for a new one.

Tips

  • Read the two negative modifiers first and plan your opening around them.
  • Higher difficulty raises the rewards, but they are only given once a day, so pick a level you can finish.
  • Use the embark bonuses you are given; they are chosen for that day's map and can cover a missing resource.
