Beat Invaders is a vertical shoot 'em up roguelite in the line of Space Invaders and Galaga: you guard a convoy of freighters through waves of enemies whose speed and firing follow the beat of the current track. Daily and Weekly challenges each have their own leaderboard.
About Beat Invaders
Beat Invaders is by Raffaele Picca and came out on Steam in March 2022. You fly one of three pilots, each with their own ship class and main weapon, at the bottom of the screen, while waves of enemies fill the top. Your freighters fly beside you and need protecting. The music decides the pace: the speed of the game, the enemies' movements and their rate of fire all follow the tempo of the song playing, so each round feels different with its track.
Between waves you level up and pick upgrades, then combine them with ship hacks, specials, boosters and route effects that change the run. Bosses appear after set waves, and event waves break up the pace. Points earned in a run buy permanent upgrades for the ship and convoy, which can be reset and spent again.
Version 2.0 added Daily and Weekly challenges, each with its own leaderboard, and a later patch moved them to Normal difficulty so more players could take part. When the online service behind the daily and weekly runs went offline, the developer moved the game to a new one, and the 3.0 update in October 2024 fixed the Daily and Weekly leaderboards. Other modes include Easy, Normal, Hyper, Speedrun and Lone Wolf, all with online leaderboards.
It runs on Windows and Linux and is verified for the Steam Deck. It suits players who like score-chasing shooters with a roguelite build in each run.
How to play Beat Invaders
- Buy and install Beat Invaders on Steam.
- Pick the Daily mode from the mode menu.
- Move your ship along the bottom of the screen, shoot the waves and protect your freighters.
- After each wave choose an upgrade, building a combination that works for the run.
- Survive as long as you can and see your score on the day's leaderboard.

Tips
- Watch the tempo: when a faster track comes on, enemies move and shoot faster.
- Your freighters matter, so place shields and upgrades that keep the convoy alive.
- Spend meta points between runs; they can be reset if a build does not work.
