Rift of the NecroDancer

A three-lane rhythm game with a daily remixed challenge, the same seed for everyone.

Every day: Daily Challenges built on Remix Mode: each day the songs are remixed from one random seed that every player shares, and scores go on a global leaderboard for the day. New puzzle: Once a day; the game does not state the time.

Rift of the NecroDancer is a rhythm game from Brace Yourself Games and Tic Toc Studios, published by Klei in 2025: you hit monsters as they come down three lanes to the beat. Its Daily Challenges use Remix Mode to reshuffle the beatmaps from a seed shared by every player that day, with a global leaderboard.

About Rift of the NecroDancer

Rift of the NecroDancer is a rhythm game from Brace Yourself Games, the makers of Crypt of the NecroDancer, developed with Tic Toc Studios and published by Klei in February 2025. Cadence, the hero of the first game, is pulled into a new world where monsters pour through a Rift. Instead of a dungeon, each song is a three-lane track: monsters come down the lanes to the beat, and you hit each one as it reaches you. Each monster moves in its own way, such as bats that switch lanes when hit, and tougher ones need several hits.

The game has more than forty Rhythm Rift tracks by Danny Baranowsky and other composers, each at four intensities from Easy to Impossible, plus boss fights, story minigames and a beat map editor. Remix Mode keeps a song's rhythm but generates a fresh beat map each time you play it, so you have to read the notes rather than remember them.

Remix Mode is also what drives the Daily Challenges. Each day the songs are remixed from one random seed that every player shares, and your scores go on global leaderboards for that day. Because the map is new to everyone, the daily is a test of sight-reading rather than practice.

The daily suits rhythm game players who have learned the hand-made charts and want a fresh, comparable challenge each day.

How to play Rift of the NecroDancer

  1. Open Rift of the NecroDancer and pick the Daily Challenge.
  2. Choose an intensity you can sight-read; the beat map is new to everyone.
  3. Hit each monster as it reaches the end of its lane, on the beat; learn how each kind moves.
  4. Keep your combo going to raise your score.
  5. Check where your score ranks on the day's global leaderboard.

Tips

  • Play a few songs in Remix Mode first; the daily uses the same generated maps.
  • Watch for monsters that change lanes or need more than one hit, and read them before they arrive.
  • A full combo is worth more than rushing up to a harder intensity you cannot hold.

Questions

Is the daily challenge the same for every player?

Yes. Each day everyone plays the same Remix Mode seed, so the beat maps match, and scores go on a global leaderboard.

What is Remix Mode?

A mode that keeps a song's rhythm but generates a new beat map each time, so you cannot rely on memory.

Who made it?

Brace Yourself Games, the studio behind Crypt of the NecroDancer, with Tic Toc Studios. Klei published it in 2025.
