Atomicrops: the farmer shoots mutant pests across a small tilled field at night, damage numbers floating above them

Atomicrops is a roguelite twin-stick shooter about farming after the apocalypse: you plant and harvest fast-growing crops, sell them in town and defend the field from mutant pests each night. Its Daily Run gives everyone the same seed, one attempt and a leaderboard for the day.

About Atomicrops

Atomicrops was made by Bird Bath Games and published by Raw Fury, leaving early access in September 2020. You arrive at a farm in the irradiated countryside and have a day at a time to till, plant, water and harvest as many crops as you can. At the end of each day you take the produce to town to buy weapons and items, and when night falls you defend the field against creatures that want to eat it. A season ends with a boss and special shops, and the run ends with the Nuclear Winter.

Along the way you befriend pigs, chickens and cows that work the farm for you, can woo and marry someone from town to fight beside you, and pick up relics from the biomes around the farm. Money from each run buys permanent upgrades, new characters, spouses and difficulties, and there are many cats to unlock for the homestead.

The Daily Run was added with the full release, along with online leaderboards. You start it by talking to the butterfly at the farmhouse. The run is seeded so every player gets the same one: bosses, farm animals and the order of Golden Pupa rewards match, though the community wiki notes that a few things, such as tractors and some camp locations, stay random. Each daily is set in a given year, has a 90-minute limit and pays double cornucopias. Leaving the run ends your attempt, and when it is over you see your rank for that day and the day before. Leaderboards are kept per platform.

It is on Steam for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox. It suits players who like twin-stick roguelites and want a shared run each day to measure a build against.

How to play Atomicrops

  1. Buy and install Atomicrops on PC or console.
  2. At the farmhouse, talk to the butterfly to start the Daily Run, choosing a leaderboard name the first time.
  3. By day, till the soil, plant seeds, water them and harvest what grows.
  4. Sell the harvest in town, buy gear, then defend the farm from pests at night.
  5. Survive as long as you can within 90 minutes and check your rank for the day.

Tips

  • Leaving the daily ends your attempt, so only quit when you mean to.
  • Pausing stops the 90-minute timer, so take breaks from the pause menu.
  • Farm animals and Golden Pupa rewards are seeded, so the same plan can work for everyone that day.
