Chicken Invaders Universe is a free online entry in the long-running Chicken Invaders shoot 'em up series. You fly missions across more than a thousand star systems against the Henpire, and each day a competitive challenge mission arrives in your inbox for everyone to fly and compare scores on.
About Chicken Invaders Universe
Chicken Invaders Universe is made by InterAction studios, the makers of the Chicken Invaders series. The premise is unchanged: intergalactic chickens want revenge for the way humans treat Earth chickens, and you fly a small ship at the bottom of the screen shooting the waves of hens, eggs and bosses above you. Here you play a recruit of the United Hero Force and work your way up its ranks.
The game is built around a large shared galaxy: over 1,000 star systems and more than 20,000 missions of 15 types. You buy, sell and upgrade spacecraft and equipment, join squadrons with other players, and fly missions with friends, up to 99 players together. There are leaderboards and rankings throughout.
The daily part is the challenge mission delivered to everyone's inbox each day. The developers' patch notes describe its types: Pot Luck, where everyone flies with the same spacecraft and equipment; Budget Constraint, where everyone has the same minimal loadout; Weapons Training; and the regular daily mission, renamed Today's Scramble. Each day one type is picked, so your score is set against everyone flying the same mission.
It is free on Steam for Windows, with in-app purchases, and has been updated regularly, with version 160 in September 2026. It suits players who grew up on the earlier Chicken Invaders games or want a busy arcade shooter with a daily score to chase.
How to play Chicken Invaders Universe
- Install Chicken Invaders Universe from Steam; it is free.
- Open your inbox and pick the day's challenge mission.
- Move your ship along the bottom of the screen and shoot the chickens, dodging eggs and debris.
- Collect power-ups and food during the mission to raise your score.
- Check the challenge leaderboard to see how you placed against other players.

Tips
- On Pot Luck and Budget Constraint days everyone has the same gear, so the score comes down to flying.
- Keep moving: standing still under a wave is the quickest way to be hit.
- Upgrade your weapons in the Galactic Store for the regular missions.

Is the daily challenge the same for everyone?
The challenge mission is delivered to every player each day and ranked competitively. In Pot Luck and Budget Constraint challenges everyone also flies the same spacecraft and equipment.
Does it cost anything?
It is free to play on Steam, with optional in-app purchases.

Yes. Missions can be flown together, with up to 99 players, and you can join squadrons.
