Slipstream: Rogue Space is a free multiplayer roguelike where one player captains a starship and everyone else crews it, shooting, repairing and raising shields in real time. Its Proteus Daily Challenge gives every captain one try a day at the same map, ranked on a leaderboard.

About Slipstream: Rogue Space

Slipstream: Rogue Space comes from Subpixel Studios and launched in February 2024. It was built for live streams: a streamer captains a large ship and viewers join as crew, but anyone can captain a small ship with a few friends. The captain picks the route across a map of a region and gives orders; the crew, played as cats, bears, crocodiles, hamsters, octopuses and turtles, run between stations to fire guns, fix damage and keep the shields up.

The daily mode arrived in the June 2024 update. In the Proteus region each captain gets one attempt a day on the same one-sector map, carrying the same one to three preset techs and the same bonus XP multiplier. The score weighs run time, battle difficulty, how much of the map you cleared, the hull damage you finish with, maxed techs and whether you survived. The leaderboard lists the captain and the crew's MVP, starts over each day and keeps the history of earlier days.

There is also a daily bonus run with extra XP that any captain can launch once a day in a region of their choice. Crew earn permanent XP for a skill tree, and outfits can be bought in a shop.

It is free on Steam for Windows and Mac and on iPhone, iPad and Android, with sign-in through Twitch, Steam, Apple or Google. It suits streamers and groups of friends who want a co-op roguelike with one fixed challenge a day to compete on.

How to play Slipstream: Rogue Space

Tips

  • Score counts map clearance and hull damage as well as time, so a fast run that leaves the ship wrecked can rank below a careful one.
  • Look at the day's preset techs before you set off and plan battles around them.
  • Only one attempt counts each day, so warm up with an ordinary run first.
