Blood Card is a roguelike deckbuilder by Pixel Cattle Games in which the cards left in your draw pile are your life: every point of damage costs you a card. Its Daily Challenge mode sets one run for the day and ranks players by their best score.

About Blood Card

Blood Card is a roguelike deckbuilding game made and published by Pixel Cattle Games, released on Steam for Windows and Mac on 24 May 2019 after a period in Early Access. You fight through three zones of monsters, elites, shops and events, gathering cards as rewards and building a deck that fits the run you are having.

Its main rule sets it apart: your life is the number of cards in your draw pile. Each point of damage makes you discard a card, and when the draw pile is empty the run is over. Death itself chases you through the zones, and you can choose to turn and fight it whenever you feel ready, or keep running. There are no classes locking cards away, so any unlocked card from a pool of more than 230 can turn up.

The Daily Challenge mode arrived with Update 33, just before the full release, together with online rankings. A follow-up fix capped the sum of the day's difficulty and Death level at 9, and made the ranking show the highest score you reached that day rather than only your first attempt. The game also has a monster challenge mode and a custom mode.

Blood Card is an older, small game, and the daily ranking is quiet these days, but players have still written about chasing first place on the daily leaderboard in recent years.

How to play Blood Card

  1. From the main menu, open the Daily Challenge mode.
  2. Fight your way through the zones, choosing which monsters, elites, shops and events to take on.
  3. Pick card rewards to build your deck, remembering that every card in your draw pile is also a point of health.
  4. Decide when to face Death, which chases you through the run.
  5. When the run ends, your score goes to the day's ranking; play again for a higher one.

Tips

  • Cards that shuffle cards back into your draw pile work as healing, so value them more than in other deckbuilders.
  • Taking a card reward also gives you more health, so a thin deck is riskier here than in Slay the Spire.
  • Only your best score of the day counts, so a weak first attempt costs nothing on the ranking.
