Griftlands is a deck-building roguelite from Klei Entertainment in which you fight with one deck and talk your way through problems with another. Its Daily Challenge gives you a short run with a set character, mutators and bonus goals, played for a high score, and the setup changes every day.
About Griftlands
Griftlands is a deck-building roguelite made by Klei Entertainment, the studio behind Don't Starve. It entered early access in 2019 and was released in full in June 2021 on PC, then on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch a few days later. You play a mercenary on a lawless world, and each character has two decks: one for combat and one for negotiation, so many problems can be solved by arguing, bribing or lying instead of fighting. The jobs you take and the friends and enemies you make change how a run goes.
The Daily Challenge mode was added in a July 2020 update. Klei's notes describe it as a short run, under an hour, in which you try to get a high score with a specific character, mutators and bonus goals. The configuration changes every day at 5pm Vancouver time, so there is a new challenge each day. The first variants were Cave Escape and Boss Rush, and a Protection variant, where you help a wounded ally survive a series of tough fights, was added to the rotation in August 2020.
The daily is a good way into the game for players who do not have time for a full campaign, and a change of pace for players who know the cards well, since the mutators and fixed character push you away from your usual deck.
How to play Griftlands
- Choose Daily Challenge from the main menu to see today's character, mutators and bonus goals.
- Play the short run, building your combat and negotiation decks from the cards you are offered.
- Win fights and negotiations, and go after the bonus goals to raise your score.
- Finish the run, or lose it, and see your score for the day.
- Come back after the daily reset at 5pm Vancouver time for a new setup.

Tips
- Read the mutators before the first fight: they can change which cards are worth taking.
- The bonus goals add to your score, so plan for them early instead of only trying to survive.
- Negotiation can avoid a fight that would cost health you need later in a short run.
