Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is a top-down auto-shooter from Funday Games, set in the Deep Rock Galactic universe, in which a lone dwarf mines through caves while weapons fire on their own at swarms of aliens. Its Vanguard Contract sets one mission a day with a fixed biome, class, starting weapon and mutators.
About Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is a single-player survivor-like made by Funday Games and published by Ghost Ship Publishing, a spin-off of Ghost Ship Games' co-op shooter Deep Rock Galactic. It entered early access on PC in February 2024 and was released in full in September 2025 on PC and Xbox Series X|S, with mobile versions following. You pick a dwarf class and dive into the caves of Hoxxes, mining minerals and digging new paths while your weapons fire automatically at the swarms. Levelling up during a dive adds and upgrades weapons, and each stage ends with a fight against an elite or a boss.
Vanguard Contracts arrived in Update 04, Into the Blue, in October 2024, together with mutators. The developers describe a Vanguard Contract as a special mission with a specific set of mutators and run conditions, where the biome, class mod and starting weapon are predetermined, and which resets daily. Their example: the Crystalline Caverns as a Maintenance Worker Engineer starting with the Cryo Cannon, only able to equip cold weapons, plus a list of positive and negative mutators. A weekly mode, Lethal Operations, sits next to it as a harder challenge.
The daily takes away the build choices you normally make before a dive, so it works as a test of how well you can adapt. Players on the game's forums compare notes on 'today's contract' and its mutators. A 2025 patch made the first win of each contract give a guaranteed piece of high-rarity gear.
How to play Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
- Progress through the hazard levels until Vanguard Contracts unlock on the mission screen.
- Open today's Vanguard Contract and read its biome, class, starting weapon, weapon limits and mutators.
- Pick a hazard level and start the dive with the set loadout.
- Mine, collect experience and choose weapon upgrades that fit the contract's limits while the swarms close in.
- Beat the final boss to finish the contract and collect the first-win rewards before the daily timer runs out.

Tips
- Read the negative mutators before you start; they decide which upgrades are worth taking.
- When the contract only allows one weapon type, put upgrades into stats that help that type, such as reload or attack speed.
- Keep mining between fights: minerals and experience matter as much as kills in the later stages.
