Classic falling-block stacking with a Daily mode where everyone gets the same pieces.

Every day: A Daily mode whose piece sequence comes from a seed made from the UTC date: everyone gets the same order of tetrominoes that day, so scores can be compared. Your best daily score is saved for that date in your browser. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

Quadrix is a browser block-stacking arcade game in the classic style: rotate and drop falling tetrominoes and clear full lines. Its Daily mode builds the piece order from the UTC date, so every player faces the same sequence that day and can compare scores.

About Quadrix

Quadrix is a falling-block game made from scratch in plain JavaScript by freezer974 and published on itch.io. Pieces of four squares fall into a well ten cells wide; you move and rotate them so they fill whole rows, which then clear. A next box shows the coming piece, and the speed rises with every ten lines you clear.

The Daily mode is what makes it a daily game. When you start it, the game turns the current UTC date into a seed and generates the day's sequence of pieces from it. Everyone who plays on the same date gets the same order of I, O, T, S, Z, J and L pieces, so a score is a fair comparison with a friend who played the same day. Your best daily score is stored against that date in your browser; there is no online leaderboard, so comparing means sharing your number.

Beside the daily run there is A-Type, a marathon that speeds up as you level, and B-Type, where you clear 25 lines over a pile of garbage blocks of a height you choose. A Zen mode without gravity and two extra colour themes sit behind a premium button. Three music tracks, particle effects on line clears and screen shake on a four-line clear come with it.

The game works offline once loaded, can be installed as a web app, and has ten interface languages. It starts in French, with buttons on the menu to switch to English or another language.

How to play Quadrix

  1. Open the itch.io page and press Run game.
  2. Pick a language on the menu if needed, then choose the DAILY button (or press D).
  3. Move pieces with the left and right arrows, rotate with up, soft drop with down and hard drop with Space.
  4. Fill whole rows to clear them; the speed rises every ten lines.
  5. Play until the stack reaches the top, then compare your score with others who played the same day.

Tips

  • The day's sequence is the same on every try, so a second attempt lets you plan for pieces you have already seen.
  • Keep one column open at the side to clear four lines at once with an I piece: line clears are multiplied by your level.
  • Watch the next box before placing a piece, so an awkward S or Z does not land on a flat surface you were saving.
  • Soft drops add a point per row, so pressing down on pieces you have already lined up adds a little to your score.
