osu! is a free rhythm game in which you click circles, drag sliders and spin spinners to the beat of user-made beatmaps. Its lazer client has a Daily Challenge: one curated beatmap a day, open for 24 hours, with a live leaderboard, a chat and streak tiers for players who pass it day after day. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android.

About osu! Daily Challenge

osu! began in 2007 and is one of the most widely played free rhythm games, built on a huge library of beatmaps made by its players. The new client, osu!(lazer), added the Daily Challenge on 25 July 2024. Its wiki says the idea came from a player's comment asking for a cup of the day format like TrackMania's.

Each day a panel of community members picks one beatmap difficulty, sometimes themed around a genre, an artist or a gimmick, and occasionally with a mod that is forced on. It sits in the main menu beside the other modes. The challenge screen shows the time remaining, a live leaderboard of the day's top scores, the total passes and combined score of everyone who has played, and a chat. Difficulty climbs over the week and resets every seven days, and at the end of each month a week is given over to highlighting strong beatmaps from the month before.

Passing the challenge on consecutive days builds a daily streak and a weekly streak, and total participation earns tiers from Iron and Bronze up to Lustrous. Past challenges and their rankings stay on the osu! website. The game is free and open source; you need an osu! account to submit scores.

How to play osu! Daily Challenge

  1. Download osu!(lazer) and sign in with an osu! account.

  3. Play the day's beatmap: click circles, follow sliders and spin spinners in time with the music.

Tips

  • Play the challenge early in the week while it is easier to build your streak.
