Meowdoku is a cat-themed take on the Queens-style placement puzzle. Each coloured territory on the board gets exactly one cat, no row or column may hold two, and cats may not touch at all, even at the corners. Every board is solvable by logic alone; guessing wrong costs a heart.

About Meowdoku

Meowdoku is a compact logic puzzle built around cats and coloured regions, in the family of the Queens placement puzzle. The board is a grid divided into coloured territories, and your task is to place cats so that there is exactly one cat in every row, every column and every coloured region, and so that no two cats touch, not even diagonally.

You play with two marks. One click puts an X on a cell to show it cannot hold a cat, which is how you record what you have ruled out; another places a cat. Because the touching rule bans neighbours in all eight directions, placing one cat clears the squares around it, and the colour regions and the row and column limits chain together so the solution can be reasoned out step by step. Every board is solvable by logic alone, and the game rewards deduction over guessing: a wrong placement costs a heart.

There is a new dated puzzle every day, the same for everyone, and the daily rotates through normal, hard and ultra difficulty. Alongside the daily there are level packs, a practice mode, and a my cats area, plus how to play and tips pages. It plays in the browser and is free.

It suits people who like Sudoku-style deduction and the Queens puzzle, served up in a gentler, cat-themed form.

How to play Meowdoku

  1. Open the daily puzzle and look at the grid and its coloured regions.
  2. Click a cell once to mark it with an X when you work out a cat cannot go there.
  3. Place a cat in a cell you have deduced is safe.
  4. Keep to the rules: one cat per row, per column and per coloured region, and no two cats touching, even at the corners.
  5. Fill the board correctly to solve it; a wrong placement costs a heart, so deduce rather than guess.

Tips

  • Start with the smallest coloured regions and tight rows or columns, where the cat has the fewest possible cells.
  • Each cat you place clears all eight neighbouring cells, so mark those with an X straight away.
  • Use X marks freely to record what you have ruled out; they keep the logic visible.
  • When a row, column or region has only one cell left unmarked, that is where its cat goes.
