Crowns (Puzzle Round)
One crown per row, column and colour region, and no two crowns may touch.
Every day: One crown-placement board a day, the same for every player: place exactly one crown in every row, column and colour region, with no two crowns touching, even diagonally. Ranked by solve time on the daily leaderboard. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

Crowns is Puzzle Round's daily placement puzzle. Put one crown in every row, every column and every colour region of the board, without any two crowns touching. The board is the same for everyone each day, and your solve time goes on the leaderboard.
About Crowns (Puzzle Round)
Crowns is a placement puzzle in the Queens tradition, which Puzzle Round traces back to the eight queens problem in one of its articles. The board is a square grid split into coloured regions, one region for each row.
Your job is to place exactly one crown in every row, every column and every colour region. Crowns may never touch each other, not even at a corner. Each board has one arrangement that works, and the site says it can be reached by deduction without guessing. Crowns that clash are highlighted.
Tap a cell to place a crown and tap it again to take it away. The clock starts with your first tap, and finishing posts your time to the daily leaderboard. If you play LinkedIn's Queens, the rules are the same.
Puzzle Round is a free website of short daily puzzles by thatsoftwaredude, an independent developer. Every player gets the same puzzles each day, a countdown on the site runs to the next midnight UTC, and each game keeps its own daily leaderboard ranked by solve time. You can play without signing up; a free account saves your result to the leaderboard and keeps your streak, and private Circles let a family or a group of friends compare results. Clearing the whole lineup in a day counts as a Perfect Day.
How to play Crowns (Puzzle Round)
- Open puzzleround.com/crowns to load today's board.
- Tap a cell to place a crown; tap it again to remove it.
- Put exactly one crown in every row, column and colour region.
- Keep crowns apart: no two may touch, even diagonally.
- Place the last crown to stop the clock and see the daily leaderboard.
Tips
- Start with the smallest colour region: its crown has the fewest places to go.
- A region that sits entirely in one row or column claims that line for itself.
- Every cell around a placed crown is ruled out, which often settles a neighbouring region.
- When two regions share the same two columns, those columns are taken.
