A-Puzzle-A-Day is the official app of DragonFjord's calendar puzzle. The board lists the twelve months and the days 1 to 31, and each day you place eight pieces so that every square is covered except today's month and today's date. Every date of the year can be made, and some are harder than others.
About A-Puzzle-A-Day (DragonFjord app)
A-Puzzle-A-Day began as a wooden puzzle from the puzzle maker DragonFjord: a frame printed with the months Jan to Dec and the days 1 to 31, and eight flat pieces that fit inside it. The challenge is to cover every square except two, the current month and the current day, so the date of the day is the one left visible. With 366 possible dates it is a new packing puzzle every day of the year.
The app keeps the same idea on screen. You drag and turn the pieces into the frame for today's date; dragon coins and trophies reward solutions, harder dates pay bonuses, hint tickets help when you are stuck, and time machine passes let you go back for a day you missed. Solutions are saved in a solution bank, and the coins buy other sets: 30 themed boards, from animal prints and a golf course to steampunk gears, with the calendar in eleven languages.
The app is free with ads and in-app purchases, on iOS since 2022 and on Android.

Tips
- Place the largest pieces first along the edges of the frame.
- Look at the shape of the space around today's month and date: the pieces touching them are usually the hardest to fit.
- A date that is hard one way round often opens up if you flip the long pieces.
