The Special Daily Star Battle on puzzle-star-battle.com is one big Star Battle grid a day, the same for everyone. You place stars so every row, column and outlined region holds the set number of stars and no two stars touch, even at a corner. The daily is a 4-star puzzle, much larger than the site's everyday sizes.
About Daily Star Battle
Star Battle, which the site notes is also known as Queens, is a grid split into outlined regions. In a 1-star puzzle every row, every column and every region gets exactly one star; in a 2-star puzzle each gets two, and so on. Two stars may never sit next to each other, including diagonally. That last rule does most of the work: each star you place rules out the eight cells around it.
Puzzle-star-battle.com offers sizes from 5x5 with one star up to 14x14 with three, plus shapeless versions without regions. The Special Daily sits above all of these as a 4-star puzzle; the one for 2 October 2026 was 17 by 17. It is the same grid for everyone that day, dated on the page, and the site also runs a 5-star weekly and a 6-star monthly special. Options let you auto-place crosses around each star and colour the regions, and the site shows ads unless you become a patron, which also unlocks the last 30 daily puzzles.
If the 8x8 one-star grid of Queens on LinkedIn has become too quick, this is the long version: same rules, more stars, and a grid where you have to count how many stars a group of regions must hold before anything falls into place. It suits solvers who like a single deep puzzle over a coffee rather than a race.
How to play Daily Star Battle
- Open puzzle-star-battle.com and choose 4★ Special Daily Star Battle from the list of puzzles.
- Check the star count: in the daily puzzle every row, column and outlined region must end with four stars.
- Click cells to mark them as a star or an X; the toolbar can cycle through star, cross and blank or fix one of them, and an option places Xs around each new star for you.
- Keep every star apart from the others: no two stars can touch side to side or corner to corner.
- When every row, column and region holds four stars, press Done (or Enter) to check the grid and stop the timer.
Tips
- Look for small regions first: a region that is only a few cells wide can hold its stars in very few ways, and the cells next to it lose candidates.
- Count across groups: if three regions sit entirely inside three rows, those rows' stars all belong to those regions, so every other cell in the rows is an X.
- Two stars in neighbouring cells are never allowed, so a 2x2 block can hold at most one star; split narrow strips into 2x2 blocks to count the most stars they can hold.
- Practise on the 10x10 two-star and 14x14 three-star sizes before taking on the four-star daily.
Questions
Is Star Battle the same as Queens?
The rules are the same idea. The site says Star Battle is also known as Queens. LinkedIn's Queens is a one-star puzzle on a small grid, while the Special Daily here asks for four stars in each row, column and region on a much larger grid.
When does the daily Star Battle change?
The daily is dated by the site's clock, which runs on UTC, so a new puzzle arrives at midnight UTC.
Can I play past daily puzzles?
The page lists the last month of daily dates. The site's patron page says patrons can go back through the last 30 daily puzzles.
