Beacons share art: a five by five board with five yellow beacons, none touching, beside the title and 'A new board every day'

Beacons is a free daily logic puzzle from the tech site Technobezz. Each day brings one numbered board split into coloured zones, and you place one beacon in every row, column and zone so that no two touch, even diagonally.

About Beacons (Technobezz)

Beacons follows the rules of Queens and Star Battle: a square grid divided into coloured zones, and one piece to place in every row, every column and every zone. Two beacons that touch in any direction, diagonals included, interfere, and the game rings both in amber so you can undo the mistake.

The daily board is numbered, the same for every player, and refreshes at your local midnight. A timer starts on your first tap and stops when the last zone lights up, and a streak, win rate and best streak are kept in your browser with no account. Technobezz says it drew the boards in house and checked each for a single solution.

Beside the daily board, Practice mode deals random grids from a pool of four hundred, with a New board button and Reveal solution, and nothing there touches your daily record. It suits anyone who already plays LinkedIn's Queens and wants a second board each day.

How to play Beacons (Technobezz)

  1. Open today's board: a grid divided into coloured zones.
  2. Tap a cell once to mark it with a dot, twice to place a beacon, and a third time to clear it.
  3. Place exactly one beacon in every row, every column and every coloured zone.
  4. Keep beacons apart: two that touch in any direction, diagonals included, interfere.
  5. Fill the last zone to stop the timer, then share your time or try Practice mode.

Tips

  • Start with the smallest zone: its beacon has only a few possible cells.
  • Once a beacon is placed, dot out its row, column, zone and the eight cells around it.
  • If a zone lies entirely in one row or column, no other zone can use that line.
