HexPile No. 94 on Zalize for October 3: an empty honeycomb board of nineteen hex cells, move 0 of 30, with blue, red and yellow hex stacks waiting below

HexPile is a free daily stacking puzzle from Zalize Daily Games. Each day everyone gets the same 30-move deal of coloured hex stacks to place on a small honeycomb board, where matching colours merge and runs of eight clear for points. Chained clears multiply the score.

About HexPile (Zalize)

HexPile is a puzzle about placing stacks of coloured hexagon tiles on a honeycomb board of nineteen cells. Three stacks wait below the board, and you drag one at a time onto any empty cell. When neighbouring cells show the same colour on top, the shorter run of that colour flows onto the longer one, and one move can set off a cascade of merges across the board.

When a cell holds eight matching tiles on top, they clear and score. Several clears in one cascade multiply the score by two, three and more, so the skill lies in building up colours side by side and setting them off together rather than clearing one cell at a time. The daily game gives you thirty moves, and the board fills quickly if you place stacks carelessly.

The daily deal is generated at midnight UTC from a seed shared by everyone, so all players get the same stacks in the same order and can compare scores. You can replay it, but only your first result counts toward your streak and stats. A Practice mode offers unlimited random boards that never touch your record. There is no account; streaks are kept on your device. HexPile is one of the games on daily.zalize.com, beside its word, map and number dailies.

How to play HexPile (Zalize)

  1. Open HexPile and keep the Daily tab selected.
  2. Drag one of the three stacks at the bottom onto an empty cell of the honeycomb.
  3. Watch matching top colours on neighbouring cells flow together, shorter runs onto longer ones.
  4. Build eight matching tiles on top of a cell to clear it and score.
  5. Use your 30 moves to set up cascades of several clears, which multiply the score.

Tips

  • Keep cells of the same colour next to each other so one placement can trigger several merges.
  • Leave an empty cell or two free late in the game; a full board ends your run.
  • Use Practice mode to learn how cascades flow before playing the day's deal, since only your first daily result counts.
