Blockudoku Daily Challenge board with a preset pattern of blue blocks and three shapes to place

Blockudoku mixes a block puzzle with the sudoku grid: you place shapes on a 9 by 9 board and clear full rows, columns and 3 by 3 squares. Besides its endless mode, it has a Daily Challenge for every date, with a preset pattern on the board and a score to reach, collected on a monthly calendar.

About Blockudoku

Blockudoku is a mobile puzzle game by Easybrain, released in 2019. The board is a 9 by 9 grid divided into nine 3 by 3 squares, like a sudoku. You are dealt three shapes at a time and drop them onto the grid; filling a whole row, column or 3 by 3 square clears it. There is no time limit, and the game ends when none of your shapes fits.

The Daily Challenge gives each date its own puzzle. The board starts with a pattern of blocks already on it, and you need to reach a set score to complete the day. The layout and target are the same for everyone on that date, which is why players compare notes on a given day's challenge, but the shapes you are dealt change from one attempt to the next, so luck and planning both matter. Challenges are collected on a monthly calendar, and finishing every day of a month earns a trophy.

The app also has an endless mode with a high score, seasonal picture events and tournaments with leaderboards. It is free with ads, and suits players who like a calm, no-timer puzzle with one fixed goal a day.

Tips

  • Clear several lines or squares with one shape to score a combo; it is the fastest way to the target.
  • Keep the middle of the board open so long shapes always have a place to go.
  • Do not hold out for a perfect piece; if a shape can clear something now, place it.
