The Special Daily Sudoku on puzzle-sudoku.com is one dated 9x9 sudoku a day, the same for every player. You fill the grid so each row, column and 3x3 box holds the digits 1 to 9 once. The site also has graded practice grids, larger 12x12 and 16x16 sudokus, and a separate Daily Sandwich Sudoku.
About Daily Sudoku
Sudoku needs little introduction: a 9x9 grid split into nine 3x3 boxes, some cells given, the rest blank. Each row, each column and each box must end up with every digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. You find the missing digits by elimination, never by arithmetic, so it is a logic puzzle that happens to use numbers.
Puzzle-sudoku.com keeps graded 9x9 grids from Basic to Evil, plus 12x12 and 16x16 versions, Killer and Jigsaw sudoku, and a Daily Sandwich Sudoku. The Special Daily Sudoku is its standard daily: one 9x9 grid, the same for everyone that day, with the date on the page and a list of recent dates beside it. Settings cover pencil notes, highlighting duplicates and same numbers, a night mode and a timer you can hide. The site shows ads; becoming a patron removes them and lets you go back through the last 30 daily puzzles.
It fits a daily routine for anyone who already likes sudoku and wants one fixed grid a day instead of picking a difficulty. Players who find it quick can move on to the weekly and monthly specials or to the Killer and Jigsaw variants on the same site.
How to play Daily Sudoku
- Open puzzle-sudoku.com and choose Special Daily Sudoku from the list of puzzles.
- Select a cell and type a digit from 1 to 9, or use the number buttons.
- Switch to pencil mode to write small candidate notes in a cell when more than one digit is still possible.
- Fill each row, each column and each 3x3 box so it holds every digit from 1 to 9 exactly once.
- When the grid is full, press Done (or Enter) to check it and stop the timer.
Tips
- Scan one digit at a time across all nine boxes: where a digit is already in two boxes of a band, the third box often has only one cell left for it.
- Look for cells where eight digits are ruled out by the row, column and box together; that cell's value is fixed.
- When two cells in a row, column or box can only hold the same two digits, remove those digits from every other cell in that line or box.
- Turn on the setting that removes pencil notes automatically so stale candidates do not mislead you.
Questions
How hard is the Special Daily Sudoku?
It is a single 9x9 grid each day. The site does not label its difficulty; if it feels easy, the weekly and monthly specials and the Evil grade are there for more.
What time does the daily sudoku change?
The daily follows the site's date, and the site's clock runs on UTC, so the new grid appears at midnight UTC.
Is there an app?
The site links to PuzzleGym for iPhone and Android, which includes sudoku and the site's other puzzle types with daily, weekly and monthly specials.
