A Killer Sudoku grid with dotted cages and sum clues, from puzzle-killer-sudoku.com

Killer Sudoku combines sudoku with Kakuro-style sums: cages of cells must add up to a small total, and no digit repeats inside a cage. Puzzle-killer-sudoku.com has a dated Special Daily Killer Sudoku shared by all players, beside smaller grids at three difficulties and weekly and monthly specials.

About Daily Killer Sudoku

Killer Sudoku follows the normal sudoku rules, with each row, column and 3x3 box holding 1 to 9 once. On top of that the grid is divided into cages, each with a small number in its corner. The digits in a cage must add up to that number and may not repeat within the cage. Often the grid starts with no digits at all, so every number has to be worked out from the sums.

On puzzle-killer-sudoku.com the daily game is the Special Daily Killer Sudoku. Every player gets the same grid on a given date, and the date sits under the board; the 2 October 2026 puzzle was a full 9x9 grid with no digits given. The standard sizes are listed by box size, 2x2, 2x3 and 3x3, each in Easy, Normal and Hard, and there are weekly and monthly specials and a Hall of Fame for the standard sizes. The site is free with ads, patrons can hide them, and it links to the PuzzleGym app for iPhone and Android. Patrons of the site can go back through the last 30 daily puzzles; everyone else plays the current day's.

Killer Sudoku suits sudoku players who want more arithmetic, and Kakuro players who want the structure of rows, columns and boxes to lean on.

How to play Daily Killer Sudoku

  1. Open the Special Daily Killer Sudoku on puzzle-killer-sudoku.com; the date is shown below the grid.
  2. Fill the grid so each row, column and 3x3 box contains 1 to 9 once.
  3. Make the digits in each dotted cage add up to the number in its corner.
  4. Do not repeat a digit inside a cage, even if the cage spans two boxes.
  5. Use pencil notes for candidate digits and submit the full grid to check it.

Tips

  • Each row, column and box adds up to 45. Add the cages that lie wholly inside a box; the difference from 45 is the sum of the cells left over.
  • Learn the cages with one combination: 3 in two cells is 1 and 2, 17 in two cells is 8 and 9, 6 in three cells is 1, 2 and 3, and 24 in three cells is 7, 8 and 9.
  • A two-cell cage that sums to 10 can never hold a 5, since the digits may not repeat.
  • Use the 45 rule across several boxes or rows at once when a single box leaves too many unknowns.
