A Jigsaw Sudoku grid with irregular coloured regions, from puzzle-jigsaw-sudoku.com

Jigsaw Sudoku keeps the sudoku rules but swaps the square boxes for irregular shapes. Puzzle-jigsaw-sudoku.com posts a Special Daily Jigsaw Sudoku for everyone each day, along with 5x5 to 9x9 grids at three difficulties, weekly and monthly specials, and a separate Daily Sandwich Jigsaw Sudoku.

About Daily Jigsaw Sudoku

Jigsaw Sudoku, sometimes called irregular sudoku, works like the classic puzzle: every row, every column and every box holds each number once. The difference is the boxes. Instead of neat 3x3 squares, the grid is cut into odd shapes that wind across the board, so the usual box scanning habits stop working and you have to read each region on its own terms.

The Special Daily Jigsaw Sudoku on puzzle-jigsaw-sudoku.com is the same for every player on its date, which is shown beneath the grid. It is not always the standard size: the puzzle for 2 October 2026 was a 10 by 10 grid with ten regions and the numbers 1 to 10. The site also has Easy, Normal and Hard grids in 5x5, 7x7 and 9x9, weekly and monthly specials, a Daily Sandwich Jigsaw Sudoku as a second daily, and a Hall of Fame for the standard sizes. It is free with ads, which patrons can remove, and the site links to the PuzzleGym app for iPhone and Android. Patrons of the site can go back through the last 30 daily puzzles; everyone else plays the current day's.

It suits sudoku players who can finish a standard grid without trouble and want something that makes them look at the board differently, without learning a whole new set of rules.

How to play Daily Jigsaw Sudoku

  1. Open the Special Daily Jigsaw Sudoku on puzzle-jigsaw-sudoku.com and note the grid size, which can differ from 9x9.
  2. Fill each empty cell so every row and every column holds each number once.
  3. Treat each outlined irregular region like a sudoku box: it must also hold each number once.
  4. Keep pencil notes in cells with several candidates and clear them as numbers are placed.
  5. When the grid is complete, submit it to check it and see your time.

Tips

  • Regions that stick out of a set of rows give free deductions: if a group of whole regions covers some rows plus a few extra cells, the extra cells must hold exactly what is missing from those rows.
  • Look for a region that lies almost entirely in one row or column; its remaining numbers are often forced into the one or two cells outside it.
  • Check numbers one at a time across the whole grid; with irregular shapes a single number can be pinned down where a box scan would miss it.
  • On a 10x10 daily, remember the numbers run from 1 to 10, so count to ten when checking a row.
