Bubble Sudoku is classic 9x9 sudoku played with nine coloured bubbles in place of the numbers 1 to 9. Each day brings one daily board for everyone, and hints name and explain the technique behind each move. It is free in the browser with no account, and on iPhone and Android.

About Bubble Sudoku

Bubble Sudoku is made by Pop Logic Studios LLC. The rules are the ones you know: every row, column and 3x3 block holds each of the nine colours once. The only change is that coloured bubbles take the place of the digits, which the site uses to make the point that sudoku is logic, not maths.

The daily board is the same for every player, with a countdown to the next one. Outside the daily you can play boards at four levels, Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert, each graded by the techniques it needs: Easy uses only obvious singles, Expert can call for X Wing and Swordfish. No board needs a guess.

What sets it apart is how it helps. A hint names the technique that solves a cell and walks through it on your board, and fifteen lessons run from Full House up to Swordfish. Notes are small coloured dots, and in the app you can hide the timer or turn off mistake checking so a wrong bubble does not cost a life.

It suits players who find rows of digits dull, newcomers who want to learn sudoku technique properly, and anyone after a calm daily grid.

How to play Bubble Sudoku

  1. Open the daily board in the browser or the app.
  2. Tap a colour in the palette, then tap an empty cell to place it.
  3. Make sure each row, column and 3x3 block ends up with all nine colours, once each.
  4. Add notes as small dots for the colours a cell could still be.
  5. Ask for a hint when stuck: it names the technique and shows it on your board.

Tips

  • Look first for a row, column or block with one empty cell: the missing colour goes there.
  • Follow one colour across the whole board to find the one cell in a block where it can go.
  • Once your notes are in, a cell with a single dot left is solved.
  • Read the lessons on pairs and pointing before trying Hard and Expert boards.
