The Wourdle board: seven empty rows of six tiles and an on-screen keyboard

Wourdle is Wordle with British spelling. The daily answer is six letters long instead of five, and you get seven tries instead of six. Tiles turn to show whether each letter is in the right spot, elsewhere in the word or not in it.

About Wourdle

Wourdle describes itself as the game you already know, but preferring British English spelling, and adds that because the Brits love nothing more than making things difficult for themselves, words are six letters long. The board has seven rows of six tiles and the usual on-screen keyboard.

You type a six-letter word and press Enter. Each tile then shows whether the letter is in the word and in the correct spot, in the word but in the wrong spot, or not in the word at all, and the keyboard keeps track. Expect British forms in the answers, such as -our and -ise endings, where an American list would differ.

There is one word a day, changing at midnight on your device, and a stats screen. A migration code lets you move your statistics to a new device. The game is built on the open source react-wordle project by Chase Wackerfuss and is free in the browser.

How to play Wourdle

  1. Open wourdle.com and type a six-letter word.
  2. Press Enter to submit it.
  3. Read the tiles: right letter in the right spot, right letter in the wrong spot, or not in the word.
  4. Use the keyboard colours to plan your next guess, up to seven tries.
  5. Come back after midnight for the next word.

Tips

  • Think British: answers may end in -our, -ise or -re where American spelling differs.
  • Six-letter words often carry common endings such as -ER, -ED or -LY; test them early.
  • Use your extra seventh try to test letters rather than guess blindly.
  • Watch for double letters, which are more common in longer words.
