WeatherDarts

Hit a target temperature exactly by naming cities and subtracting what the thermometer reads there right now.

Every day: One target temperature a day (separate for Celsius and Fahrenheit), the same for everyone, to bring down to exactly zero. New puzzle: Once a day.

The WeatherDarts icon

WeatherDarts plays like checking out in darts, using the weather. You start from the day's target and name up to five cities; each city's current temperature is subtracted from the total. Land on exactly zero to win, go below zero and you are bust, or settle for a medal by finishing close.

About WeatherDarts

WeatherDarts is a free daily geography game that mixes darts scoring with live weather. Each day there is a target number. You pick Celsius or Fahrenheit before your first throw, since the targets differ, and you cannot switch mid-game.

Each guess is a city. The game looks up that city's temperature at that moment and subtracts it from your remaining total. You have up to five cities to bring the total down to exactly zero, which wins the game. If the total drops below zero you go bust and the game ends.

Because the temperatures are live, the right choice depends on the time of day, the season, the hemisphere and the altitude: a city that is warm in the afternoon may be cool at night. Even without checking out exactly, finishing near zero can earn a gold, silver or bronze medal. Weather data comes from Open-Meteo.

It suits geography fans and anyone who keeps an eye on the weather around the world.

How to play WeatherDarts

  1. Open WeatherDarts and choose Celsius or Fahrenheit.
  2. Read the day's target temperature.
  3. Name a city; its current temperature is subtracted from your total.
  4. Keep throwing cities, up to five, to bring the total down.
  5. Hit exactly zero to win without going below it.

Tips

  • Use big, warm cities early to take off large chunks.
  • Finish with a cold or mountain city whose temperature is close to what remains.
  • Think about local time: it may be night, and cooler, on the other side of the world.
