The TravelGuessr icon

TravelGuessr shows you a real travel photograph and asks where on Earth it was taken. You zoom and pan the photo for clues, then place a marker on an interactive globe; the closer you are, the more of the 5000 points per round you score. There are four locations a day, the same for everyone.

About TravelGuessr

TravelGuessr is a free daily geography game built around real travel photography rather than street-level panoramas. Each day there are four rounds, each with one hand-picked photo of a place somewhere in the world, chosen to be fair but full of clues.

It is made by Avionista AB, a small independent studio that also makes the word games Thirdle and Swapdle. No account or install is needed.

In each round you zoom into the photo and pan around, looking at architecture, landscape, light and small details such as signs. When you are ready you choose Show Map and Guess. Instead of a flat map you get a globe you can spin and zoom right down to street level, and you drop your pin where you think the photo was taken. Points depend on distance, up to 5000 per round.

Everyone plays the same four locations, so scores can be compared with friends, and a daily streak rewards coming back. It suits travellers and fans of photo-based geography games who want a short daily round rather than an endless feed.

How to play TravelGuessr

  1. Open today's challenge and study the first photo.
  2. Zoom in and pan around the picture to look for clues.
  3. Choose Show Map and Guess and spin the globe to the area you think it shows.
  4. Zoom in and drop your pin; the closer it is, the more points you get.
  5. Play all four rounds, then share your score.

Tips

  • Look at road markings, plants and building materials before landmarks; they narrow down the region.
  • Zoom the globe right in before dropping your pin, since points depend on distance.
  • Light and shadows can hint at latitude and the time of year.
