DailyGuessr #141: a street-level panorama of colourful long-tail boats on a canal by a sluice gate, beside the world map for placing pins and five empty guess rows

DailyGuessr is a free daily geography game. Each day at midnight UTC a new 360 degree street-level panorama goes up for everyone, and you have five guesses to pin where it was taken. You get the distance after each guess and a direction arrow from the second one, with up to 10,000 points for a close pin.

About DailyGuessr

DailyGuessr is a small daily take on the GeoGuessr idea. There is one panorama a day, no timer and no play-again button, so every player around the world is looking at the same place on the same day. It is a side project by a developer who signs as Sebastian R., and it sits with other small dailies on the Stoop games network.

You rotate the panorama to look for clues such as road signs, the side of the road people drive on, plants, terrain, building styles and the language on shop fronts. Then you click the world map to drop a pin and submit.

The first guess shows only the distance in kilometres. From the second guess on you also get an arrow pointing toward the answer, and you have five guesses in all. Distances are colour coded from green (within 50 km) to black (over 4,000 km), and your score earns a label from Completely Lost to Local Expert. A calendar lets you go back and play past puzzles you missed.

It suits players who liked the slow, exploring feel of early GeoGuessr and want one location a day instead of an endless stream.

How to play DailyGuessr

  1. Open DailyGuessr and drag the panorama to look all around today's spot.
  2. Look for clues: signs, road markings, driving side, plants, terrain and buildings.
  3. Click the world map to place your pin and press Submit Guess.
  4. Read the distance, and from the second guess the direction arrow, then move your pin.
  5. Use up to five guesses, then share your emoji result, which shows distances but not the place.

Tips

  • Use the first guess to settle the continent, since it gives only a distance.
  • If you are lost, pin the middle of the continent you suspect to keep the worst-case distance down.
  • Vegetation and the style of roads and power lines often narrow the region fast.
