Sweardle #1735: an empty four-by-four letter grid above an on-screen keyboard with a Go key

Sweardle is Wordle for rude words. Each day there is one four-letter swear word to find, and you have four tries; each letter turns green, yellow or grey to show whether it is right, misplaced or absent. Expect strong language throughout.

About Sweardle

Sweardle is a numbered daily Wordle variant whose answers are all four-letter swear words, and whose instructions are written in the same spirit. The board is four letters wide and four rows deep: you get only four chances.

Each guess is marked the usual way: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the word but elsewhere, grey for a letter that is not there. With only four rows, the first guess matters, and the short word list cuts both ways: there are fewer candidates, but fewer tries to tell them apart.

The game is ad-free; its maker asks players, once, to consider a donation to a local homelessness charity, Launchpad. Results share as a numbered grid. The language makes it unsuitable for children or workplaces.

How to play Sweardle

  1. Open sweardle.com to see the day's numbered board.
  2. Type a four-letter swear word and press Go.
  3. Read the colours: green right place, yellow wrong place, grey not in the word.
  4. Use the clues in your next guess; you have four rows in all.
  5. Share your numbered result when you are done.

Tips

  • Start with a word that tests a common vowel and two common consonants.
  • Remember that the list of possible answers is short: think through the candidates before guessing.
  • Grey letters rule out more than you think in a four-letter word.
