Moistle's board: the dripping MOISTLE title over an empty six by five grid and an on-screen keyboard on a bright green page, with an About this game button

Moistle is a Wordle clone whose daily answers are all gross words: things that are slimy, smelly or squirm. You get six tries to find the day's five-letter word, with tiles turning colour to show which letters are right, and the game shares your result as a grid.

About Moistle

Moistle bills itself as the grossest word game on the internet. It is built on an open-source clone of Wordle, with one change: the answer list was written by Chris Samperisi and is made of gross words, the sort of thing you would rather not say at the table. The word in its own rules, MOIST, sets the tone, and the list runs through slugs, scabs, drool, sweat and worse.

Play is plain Wordle. Type a five-letter word and press Enter. A tile turns green when the letter is in the word and in the right spot, yellow when it is in the word but elsewhere, and grey when it is not in the word at all. You have six rows, and when you finish the game copies a result grid to your clipboard to share; a miss shows you the word of the day.

The word changes once a day, counted from the game's start in January 2022, at midnight US Eastern Standard Time. It is free on a single page with no account. It suits Wordle players with a sense of humour, and knowing that the answer will be unpleasant is a real clue.

How to play Moistle

  1. Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter.
  2. Read the tiles: green is the right letter in the right spot, yellow is in the word but elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
  3. Think of gross words that fit the letters you have.
  4. Find the word within six tries, then share your grid.

Tips

  • Remember the answer is always gross: once you have a few letters, think slimy, smelly or crawling.
  • Open with a word using common letters such as S, E, A and R, as in any Wordle.
  • Ordinary words are accepted as guesses, so use them to test letters before guessing a gross one.
  • Watch for plurals and verb forms: the list includes words like slugs and burps.
