Lordle of the Rings
Rate itWordle with words from The Lord of the Rings: six tries at the day's five letters.
Every day: One five-letter word a day from the main text of The Lord of the Rings, the same for every player, to find in six guesses. New puzzle: Midnight, your local time.

Lordle of the Rings is Wordle played with the vocabulary of Tolkien's book. Each day hides one five-letter word, and every guess must be a five-letter word, names included, that appears in the main text of The Lord of the Rings. Coloured tiles show which letters are right.
About Lordle of the Rings
Lordle of the Rings is a fan-made Wordle built on the open-source vue-wordle code, with one change that shapes the whole game: both the answer and every guess must be five-letter words, including names, found in the main text of The Lord of the Rings. Ordinary words like those in any novel count, and so do names from Middle-earth.
Play follows Wordle. You type a guess and press Enter, and each tile turns green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the word but elsewhere, or grey for a letter that is not in it. You have six rows to find the word.
The answer changes once a day by your device's date, so everyone who plays on the same day gets the same word. The page is a single plain board with an on-screen keyboard and no account. It suits readers of the book who play Wordle, since a word you remember from the text is a valid guess and a modern word may not be.
How to play Lordle of the Rings
- Type a five-letter word, or a five-letter name, that appears in The Lord of the Rings and press Enter.
- Read the tiles: green is a correct letter in the right place, yellow is in the word but elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
- Use those clues to choose your next guess.
- Find the word within six guesses; a new one comes the next day.
Tips
- Common English words from the narrative are valid, so open with a familiar word rich in vowels.
- If a guess is refused, it does not appear in the book's main text: try a plainer or older word.
- Remember that names count: five-letter Middle-earth names can be the answer.
- Archaic spellings and words used by Tolkien may be in the list where modern words are not.
