Sonar Puzzle
Rate itPing a dark sea grid and sink the hidden enemy fleet before your misses run out.
Every day: One new numbered mission a day, the same for every player: an Easy, Medium and Hard stage with one, two and then three hidden four-cell shapes to sink. Only the daily mission counts toward your streak and rating. New puzzle: Midnight in your local time zone.

Sonar is a free daily browser puzzle in which you hunt a hidden enemy fleet on a small grid. Every miss reports how far away the nearest unfound sub is, so each ping narrows down where the ships lie. A new three-stage mission arrives every day, with a streak, a rating and friends to compare scores with.
About Sonar Puzzle
Sonar casts you as the sonar officer on a warship: an enemy fleet is slipping into your waters and you have to find it before it escapes. The board is a grid of dark ocean cells. You tap a cell to ping it. A hit marks part of a sub and costs nothing; a miss uses up one of your ten misses and shows a number, the distance to the nearest sub you have not yet found, with diagonal steps counting.
Each shape in the fleet is four cells long, and a strip above the board shows the shapes you are looking for. A shape sinks once all four of its cells are hit. The daily mission comes in three stages: Easy hides one shape, Medium two and Hard three, and the mission number counts up from the game's launch in October 2026.
Where a classic Battleship puzzle gives you row and column counts, Sonar gives you nothing until you ping, so the first shots are a gamble and the rest is reasoning: a miss marked 1 means a sub touches that cell, a 3 rules out a whole ring around it. Hits being free rewards following a find to its end before you spend another miss.
The daily mission is the only one that counts. Your rating starts at 1000 and moves with each day's result, with ranks from Lieutenant up to Admiral, and you can add friends to compare ratings and share a score card. A Practice mode lets you play any stage as often as you like without touching the day's mission, your streak or your rating. It suits players who like Minesweeper and Battleships and want a short puzzle with some risk in it.
How to play Sonar Puzzle
- Open sonarpuzzle.com; today's mission starts on the Easy stage.
- Check the strip above the board to see the shapes you have to find; each one covers four cells.
- Tap a cell to ping it. A hit marks part of a sub and does not cost anything.
- On a miss, read the number shown: it is the distance to the nearest sub you have not found yet, counting diagonal steps.
- Use the numbers to work out where the subs can lie and ping there, keeping within ten misses.
- Sink every shape to clear the stage, then go on to Medium and Hard, and share your score when the mission is done.
Tips
- When you hit a cell, follow it in each direction before pinging elsewhere: hits are free and a shape is always four cells.
- A miss showing 1 means a sub sits in one of the eight cells around it; a large number clears a wide area at once.
- Ping near the middle first: a central miss tells you more about the board than a corner one.
- Use Practice to learn how the distance numbers behave before playing the daily mission, which is the only one that moves your rating.

What do the numbers on a miss mean?

Can I play more than one mission a day?
Practice lets you replay Easy, Medium or Hard as often as you like, but only the daily mission counts toward your streak and rating.
