About Realtor (Mind Loft)

Realtor is a home price guessing game on Mind Loft, a free site of daily browser games. Each day everyone sees the same real listing: three photos (on the day we looked, the curb, the kitchen and the inside), the city, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the floor area in square feet and the year it was built. The answer is the asking price as of a stated date. The day we looked it was a three bedroom, two bath house of 1,598 square feet in Kansas City, Missouri, built in 1907.

You get five guesses. Each one comes back higher or lower and hot or cold, and your score is your closest guess on a scale of 0 to 10. Within 1% is a bullseye. You can type short forms such as 45k or 2.5m.

The leaderboard ranks score first, then how close the best guess was, then fewer guesses, then time. Realtor is also one of the five games in Mind Loft's Price Check, which plays Pricer, Dealer, Realtor, Agent and Curator in a row for one score out of 50.

A new home goes up at midnight US Eastern Time. It suits players of Housle or Guess the Home Price, with the difference that the hints include a temperature as well as a direction.

Tips

  • The city matters most: start from what a typical home costs there, then adjust for size and condition.
  • Price per square foot is a useful yardstick once you have one hint back.
  • Make a big jump after a cold answer and save small steps for when you are hot.
  • Old houses with updated kitchens can list well above the local average; look at the inside photos.
