Angled's dial with the grey reference line and the first how-to-play card

Angled flashes an angle on a dial for three seconds, moves the reference line, and asks you to drag the dial back to the same opening. There are five angles a day with one try each, and everyone gets the same five. Your misses are scored in degrees and set against the rest of the day's players.

About Angled

Angled is one of the daily judgement games on Freehand (freehand.fun). Each round an orange line appears against a grey reference line for three seconds and then disappears. When it comes back, the reference line has turned to a new direction, so you cannot simply copy the position: you have to rebuild the opening between the two lines from memory.

There is no protractor and no number on screen. You drag the dial until the angle looks like the one you saw and lock it in. Each miss is measured in degrees and scaled to the size of the angle, so being a little off on a narrow angle counts about the same as a proportionate miss on a wide one.

The day's set is five angles, one attempt at each, and every player gets the same five on that date. When you finish, the game shows where your total sits on the curve of the day's scores. Freehand also has a multiplayer mode and a scores page, and an archive is marked as coming soon.

It differs from the angle guessing -dles, where you type a number of degrees and get higher or lower hints: here there are no hints and no second look, only your eye and what it remembered. It suits anyone who wants a quick daily test of visual memory.

How to play Angled

  1. Open Angled and press Play.
  2. Watch the orange line against the grey one for the three seconds it is shown.
  3. When the reference line moves, drag the dial until the opening matches the angle you saw.
  4. Lock in your answer; you get one attempt per angle.
  5. Repeat for all five angles, then see your score against the day's curve.

Tips

  • Note the angle against a landmark you know, such as a right angle or a straight line, rather than its position on screen.
  • Ignore where the reference line used to point: only the opening between the two lines matters.
  • Small angles are scored in proportion, so take extra care with narrow ones.
