Same Street Day 3: photos of a woven-wall house, its cooking fire and its sleeping room above a street of 100 houses from $25 to $15,000 a month

Same Street shows three photos of one real family's home, from outside, the kitchen and where they sleep, and asks where it stands on a street of 100 houses sorted by income, from about $25 to $15,000 a month per adult. You slide to a house, reveal the answer and add the home to your album. One home a day, the same for everyone.

About Same Street

Same Street is a daily game from Logicers, the small site behind 100 of Us. Each day it shows one real home in three photos: the outside, the place where the family cooks and the place where they sleep. Your job is to judge how much each adult in that home has to live on in a month, by placing it on a street of 100 houses sorted from poorest to richest.

The street runs from about $25 to about $15,000 a month per adult, in US dollars adjusted for local prices, and every step multiplies the amount by the same factor, so the middle of the street is far below the middle of the dollar range. The game is careful to say this is what each adult can spend or use, not a salary. When you tap See where it is, the true house appears with the family's figure, the photographer's name and a link to visit them on Dollar Street.

The photos come from Dollar Street, a Gapminder project whose families agreed to be photographed, used under a CC-BY licence; the game notes that Dollar Street does not endorse it. There is no login, tracking or cookies: your streak and your album of homes stay in your browser. A practice mode lets you try more homes after the daily one.

How to play Same Street

  1. Open logicers.com/same-street to see the day's home in three photos.
  2. Tap a photo to see it larger: outside, cooking and sleeping.
  3. Slide along the street of 100 houses, or use the minus and plus buttons, to the house where you think this home stands.
  4. Tap See where it is to reveal the real position and the monthly amount per adult.
  5. Share your result or play Practice; the home is added to your album.

Tips

  • Look at the cooking place first: an open fire, a gas ring or a full kitchen says a lot.
  • Remember the street is logarithmic: house 50 is a few hundred dollars a month, not thousands.
  • Floors, walls and bedding are good clues in the sleeping photo.
  • Use Practice mode to calibrate before the daily home.
