Prism is a daily colour perception game by Yuki Andersen. The daily gauntlet has five short rounds, the same for everyone that day, each testing a different way of seeing colour, and each scored from 0 to 100; your result is the average.

About Prism (Yuki Games)

Prism tests your eye for colour in five different ways. In Hue you turn a colour wheel until your swatch matches a target hue, scored by how many degrees you are off. In Order you swap six shuffled tiles back into a smooth gradient. In Mix you set the ratio of two paints to match a target blend, without seeing the mixture until you lock in. In Flash a colour fills the screen for a moment and you recreate it from memory on a hue and lightness pad. In Level you adjust a patch of one hue until it is exactly as light as a patch of another.

Each round gives 0 to 100 points, with partial credit for near misses, and the daily score is the average. The daily gauntlet is seeded by the date, so friends comparing scores played identical rounds. You get one attempt; afterwards the game shows a five-square result to share and an anonymous count of how many people played in the last day and the best score.

A Practice mode offers endless rounds of any type on a 12-level difficulty ladder, with a lifetime average per skill and an XP rank, all stored in the browser. Prism is one of a family of small daily browser games by Yuki Andersen, alongside Ballast and Bearing. It suits designers, artists and anyone curious about how well they judge colour.

How to play Prism (Yuki Games)

  1. Start today's gauntlet; each round waits until you are ready.
  2. Adjust the control for each round (wheel, tiles, slider, pad or patch) by dragging, or with arrow keys on desktop.
  3. Press Lock In or Enter to commit; there is no timer.
  4. Finish all five rounds to see your average score and share your result.

Tips

  • Hue: get close quickly, then make tiny adjustments; the last few degrees matter most.
  • Order: squint so the tile that breaks the flow stands out.
  • Mix: people tend to underestimate how much of the darker paint is in a blend.
  • Level: yellows and cyans look lighter than they are and blues look darker, so compare directly.
