LanguageGuessr daily results screen

LanguageGuessr calls itself GeoGuessr for languages. In the daily challenge you hear five short recordings of real speakers, with no subtitles, and place a pin where you think each language is spoken. Near misses still score, and each round ends by naming the language and what gave it away.

About LanguageGuessr

LanguageGuessr plays real recordings of people speaking their own language, about ten seconds each, with nothing on screen to help. Your answer is a pin on the world map: the closer it lands to where the language is spoken, the more you score, so a guess in the right family of languages usually lands in the right neighbourhood.

The daily challenge has five rounds, the same five clips for everybody until midnight, and finishes with a shareable result. After each round the game names the language, shows where it is spoken and points out the clue you missed. The pool holds more than 150 languages, from Mandarin and Spanish to regional and endangered ones such as Manx and Sorbian.

Outside the daily there is a campaign of nine regional stages with medals for streaks, multiplayer rooms where everyone hears the same clip at once, a Survival mode with three lives, and a free Explore mode. A free account tracks which languages you keep getting wrong. It suits players of Langle and Lingule who want to listen rather than read.

How to play LanguageGuessr

  1. Open languageguessr.io/daily and start today's challenge.
  2. Tap to hear the ten-second clip.

  4. See the answer, where it is spoken and what gave it away.
  5. Play all five rounds and share your result.

Tips

  • Listen for sound features: tones point to East and Southeast Asia, click consonants to southern Africa.
  • If unsure between two neighbours, pin between them: near misses still score.
  • Use Explore mode to get used to languages you rarely hear.
