Ghost Hunt daily puzzles on Puzzleship

Ghost Hunt works like Minesweeper in reverse. The numbers are already on the board, each counting the ghosts in the eight squares around it, and you place the ghosts so every count is right. Every board can be solved by logic alone.

About Ghost Hunt (Puzzleship)

Ghost Hunt keeps Minesweeper's neighbour counts and removes the gamble. Each number counts the ghosts in all adjacent squares, diagonals included, and your job is to mark which squares are haunted and which are safe. There is no clicking into the unknown: the whole board is solvable by reasoning.

Zeros are free, since they clear up to eight squares at once, so most solves start with a sweep for them. Numbers on an edge or in a corner see fewer squares and so say more. Overlapping numbers are best read together: the difference between them often settles squares only one of them can see. When a number's remaining squares must all be ghosts, or all empty, tapping the number fills them in.

Puzzleship publishes six grids of Ghost Hunt a day, graded from very easy to ultra hard. Each day's grids are numbered and dated, the same for every player, and appear at midnight in your own time zone; earlier days stay playable in the archive. The site is free with ads, and a premium plan removes them.

How to play Ghost Hunt (Puzzleship)

  1. Open Ghost Hunt and pick one of the day's six grids.
  2. Tap a square once to cross it out as ghost free, twice to place a ghost, a third time to clear it.
  3. Make each number equal the ghosts in its eight neighbours.
  4. Tap a number to fill its remaining squares when they are forced.
  5. Finish when every count is satisfied.

Tips

  • Clear around every zero first.
  • Corner and edge numbers are the most restrictive.
  • Compare two overlapping numbers; their difference often decides the squares they do not share.
  • Use the tap-a-number shortcut to avoid slips.
