About Word Eile (RTÉ)
Word Eile is a word-guessing game on RTÉ Games, the games section of Ireland's public broadcaster. The game itself runs on a gamesgrid.gg page that the rte.ie games page frames. Its own instructions sum it up: taking the daily clue, guess the hidden word in five tries or less.
The board works like Wordle. You type a word, and each tile turns a colour to show whether that letter is in the word and in the correct spot, in the word but in the wrong spot, or not in the word at all. The first letter of the answer is already filled in when you start, and the five rows are all the guesses you get.
What sets it apart is the clue and the levels. A toggle at the top switches between Quick (a six-letter word), Median (seven letters) and Cryptic (eight letters). The lightbulb opens a hints panel where you can reveal today's clue, or pick a position and have that letter shown. It is free to play in the browser, with an advert above the keyboard.
How to play Word Eile (RTÉ)
- Open Word Eile on RTÉ Games and choose a level with the Q, M or C toggle: Quick has six letters, Median seven and Cryptic eight.
- Click the lightbulb and choose Show Today's Clue to read the day's clue.
- Type a word of the right length on the keyboard and press the tick to enter it.
- Read the tiles: green means the letter is in the correct spot, and the other colours show a letter in the wrong spot or not in the word.
- Use the clue and the colours to find the word within five tries; if you are stuck, use the hints panel to reveal a letter in a position you choose.

Tips
- Read the clue before your first guess: with the first letter already shown, a good clue can get you the word in one or two tries.
- Each level is a separate word with its own length, so you can switch to Median or Cryptic once the Quick word is done.
- Save the letter hint for last: one revealed letter in the middle of the word often does more than one in a spot you can already guess.
