Witness Archives
Read an eyewitness's diary lines and name the event in history.
Every day: One numbered case a day, the same for everyone: name the historical event from up to five first-person 'diary' clues. New puzzle: Midnight UTC (the case number counts UTC days in the game's code).

Witness Archives gives you a daily case: short first-person clues written as if by someone who was there, from a vague scene-setter to a near giveaway. You type the event you think it is and can reveal the next clue when stuck. Results share as a grid of clues used and missed attempts.
About Witness Archives
Witness Archives is a daily deduction game about historical events. Each case is told through five short lines from an imagined eyewitness: the first sets the scene in a general way, and each later one adds detail until the last all but names the event. Cases range from inventions and space flight to disasters, elections and cultural moments.
You type the name of the event in your own words; the game accepts several phrasings for each answer. Case 1 was played on 14 January 2026, and a new case follows each day.
Fewer clues and fewer wrong attempts make a better result, and a win adds to your streak. The share text lists the case number, how many clues you used and how many attempts missed.
It suits players of Historydle and Dawn of Time who enjoy working from written clues.
How to play Witness Archives
- Open witnessarchives.netlify.app and enter a code name.
- Read the first diary clue for today's case.
- Type the historical event you think it describes.
- If you are stuck, reveal the next clue and try again.
- Solve it in as few clues as you can, then share your result.
Tips
- Look for one concrete detail in each clue, such as a place, a colour or an object, and build from it.
- Answers are matched on key words, so a short name for the event usually works.
