Yearbook
Four clues from one year: name the year in four guesses.
Every day: One year a day between 1950 and last year, the same for everyone: name it from up to four clues about things that happened in it. New puzzle: Midnight US Eastern time (the day's year is chosen from the date in America/New_York).

Yearbook picks a year between 1950 and last year each day and gives you clues about things that happened in it, from world events to pop culture. You start with the vaguest clue and get a more specific one after each wrong guess, with four guesses in all. A grade and a comparison with other players follow.
About Yearbook
Yearbook is a daily guess-the-year game from Hindsight Games, laid out like a page from an old school yearbook. Each day one year between 1950 and the year before the current one is chosen, and four clues are written about things that happened in it: world events, politics, film, music and more.
The clues come in order from vaguest to most specific. You start with one and make a guess; if it is wrong, the next clue is revealed. You have one guess per clue, so four in all. After each guess the game tells you whether you were exact, one year off, within five, within ten or further, which helps you steer the next guess.
When the day is over you get a grade from A+ down, depending on which guess was right, and see how you scored against everyone else who played. The game also tracks your streak, kept in your browser, and past puzzles can be replayed from an archive. The clues are researched from Wikimedia's On This Day material and articles about each event, and each clue links to a source.
It suits players of Yeardle and Jaardle who like reasoning a year out from clues, especially anyone with a good memory for the second half of the twentieth century.
How to play Yearbook
- Open yearbook.hindsightgames.com and start today's page.
- Read the first clue, the vaguest of the four.
- Type the year you think it is and submit.
- Use the feedback (exact, one off, within 5, within 10, further) and the next clue to guess again.
- Find the year within four guesses for the best grade, then compare your result with other players.
Tips
- Use the first guess to split the range: a middle year with 'within 10' feedback cuts the options sharply.
- Each clue comes from a different area, so a weak subject on one clue may be your strong one on the next.
- Years run from 1950 to last year, never the current year.
