Past Puzzle is a daily history riddle in German and English. Each day you get historical events from one year as clues, one at a time, and after each clue you guess the year, with colours showing how close you are. You have four tries; supporters can also catch up on missed days and browse an archive.

About Past Puzzle

Past Puzzle is a daily guess-the-year game made in Germany, playable in German and English on the web and in apps for iPhone and Android. Each puzzle is built around one year. You see a first historical event as a clue and guess the year; colours then show how near your guess was, and the next clue appears.

There are four clues and four guesses. Every event comes with a historical picture and a link to read more, so a puzzle also works as a short history lesson. The game describes itself as inspired by word-guessing games and says it has no ads.

The daily puzzle is free. An optional supporter subscription lets you play missed puzzles, play more than one puzzle a day and explore past events in an archive, and adds a supporter badge to shared results.

It suits players of Yeardle and Jaardle, and German speakers looking for a daily history puzzle in their own language.

How to play Past Puzzle

  1. Open pastpuzzle.de or the app and start the puzzle of the day.
  2. Read the first historical event.
  3. Type the year you think it happened.
  4. Check the colour feedback for how close you were, then read the next clue.
  5. Find the year within four guesses and share your result.

Tips

  • Use the colour feedback to halve the range with each guess rather than moving one decade at a time.
  • Later clues are usually easier to place, so a rough first guess costs little.
  • Follow the reading link after a puzzle: the same eras come up again.
